Our March demo artist is Sibylle Lienhard from Frankfurt, Germany! She is an ardent urban sketcher that exhibits her work, and is an architect by trade. Her lively sketchbook inspires us to draw wherever we are!
Her artist statement, translated to English via Google Translate:
Open your eyes…! Those who draw see more!
I draw and paint people, animals, places, and moments as a small, sometimes winking, second reality on paper, objects, or tablecloths – those who draw have more time to observe.
Working on a picture story about Duri the sparrow, who lives and hops around Liebfrauenberg in Frankfurt am Main, led me to the Urban Sketchers group (https://urbansketchers-rheinmain.de) in 2017, and since then I've been out and about in the city with my drawing supplies.
I draw on location, not from photos. With colored pencils, ink, watercolors, and quick strokes, I try to capture moments I can immerse myself in – a mood, an action, a bright day in the park, in the city… The urban bustle has captivated me!
I'm fascinated by the hustle and bustle! Since the end of 2019, my "City Moments" have been available for purchase printed in a white square, similar to a large instant Polaroid photo.
